Hand Taming Your Tokay: What to Do

Tokay gecko belongs to large species of geckos and is known for its aggressiveness, and unlike most reptiles, Tokay gecko is one of the few reptiles that can vocalize. It is among the most difficult geckos to hand tame compared to its cousins like the golden and leopard geckos. Normally, Tokays are just for “display” because of the difficulty in handling them (Tokays would usually attack their handlers with painful bites, also a unique traits among geckos). However, this doesn’t mean that you cannot hand tame your Tokay gecko. Taming your Tokay is still possible, but it takes time and a lot of patience. First of all, Tokay geckos DON’T want to be handled. Among all kinds of geckos, Tokays are the most aggressive. They are better left alone. Although they can be tamed, they are very unpredictable. Experts don’t really recommend handling Tokay geckos unless needed. They are territorial creatures that will fight till their last breath just to defend their place. And when they bite, they bite their hardest.
